Assignment 6- storybook

Assignment 6

Final Project

• Theme: Hype, crook and lyric (Group project)

• Form: Choose either option 1 or 2

– Option 1: A storybook targeted to children ages 6‐9

- Option 2: A comic script targeted for teenagers

Our group chose option 2.

Our story is definitely a breathe of fresh air compared to the other storybooks. It is a relatively bold attempt to deviate from the norm actually.

It has important takeaways about growing up behind it and beautiful and colourful illustrations to capture children attention.

Layout and typography

There are ample breathing space between the text and the pictures. We used fun and round font that is easy to read.

Difficulties

As this is our first time creating a storybook, we met with a few difficulties at the printing shop.

Firstly, the size of our book is different from the standardised size book offered in the printing shop. As a result, we have to print our book in a larger paper and cut away the excess. What a waste of paper and $~~

Secondly, we have limited binding options as we did not leave enough space between and allows for bleed.

Thirdly, the colours turned out to be slightly darker than expected as we have saved the files as RGB when the printer is CMYK.

Lesson learnt

This project was, I must say, very challenging and exhausting. This is especially so when we only embarked on this project at the end of the semester when all the other projects and assignments for other modules were soon due. All of us were busy and hardly able to meet physically. We did most of our discussions and sending of files online.

As a conclusion, this project has enabled me to gain new insights about book printing, layout, font type and colour scheme.
