Assignment 2

Create ONE pictogram for NUS community

and this pictogram will be placed within NUS campus.

I have encountered situations when I cannot board onto the NUS shuttle bus because of people who are not willing to move to the rear.

I think many people have experienced that kind of situation before too. Therefore, I think there is a need for a pictogram to be put in the NUS shuttle bus to REMIND people to move to the rear.

Hence here is what I have come out with.

Week 6

3.     Make the handles thicker.

Week 7

Assignment 2-edited

I have edited according to comments given.  Well, I think I still have to redo the  first abstraction. It really doesn’t look good.

2nd Abstraction

Final Abstraction

I have decided to redo the abstraction. The above is my final abstraction.

The red arrow used in the abstractions brings the passengers’ attention to the pictogram and also calls upon the passengers to perform the action of moving to the rear.

Pictogram-15x15

I have chosen Abstraction 5 to be developed into the final pictogram.

Basically, it captures the essence of concept using the minimum visual details.

Week 6

Assignment 1 – Edited prototype

I have darkened the outline for my cat as advised by the class and Mr Alfred.

I have also used the burnt tool in photoshop to enhance the image, making it less flat. Overall, I thought the outcome was good. J

The above is my final prototype. This is my submission for Portfolio.

1)Background- from a rather dull pink to the lively blue with snowflakes

2)Added shadow to make the cat looks less flat and more 3-D

Lesson learnt

I really enjoy sketching and brainstorming for ideas but when it comes to digitizing … :’(.. It’s really tough!!!

It’s the first time I tried using the Illustrator Application. It’s totally alien to me. I really struggled a lot with it. Well, all is worthwhile though, because it’s really a very useful application. Using Adobe Illustrator, the illustrations can be edited to give this “clean” feeling which tablet cannot give.
