Assignment 4 - Poster Design

Conceptualizing

For our fourth assignment, we were supposed to design a poster with the objective of informing people about the theme “save, kill or prevent”. I have chosen the theme “save”, “save” the notion of beauty.

Comments

-imbalance size of NUS logo

-the copy is too small

-too little breathing space from the heading

Final Prototype

The red bonding box, ”SAVE” and “STOP” and the large gory illustration are added in to capture the attention of the passer-bys and bring across the message that slim is not necessarily beauty.

I have placed the heading on the right side of the poster to balance the illustration on the left.

Contrast

•         Try to maintain a good contrast between the background and the foreground by using the red bonding box

•         Balance

•          Try to maintain good Asymmetrical balance on the left side of the poster by indicating visual weights between the illustration and the information on the right.

•         Continuity

•          The illustration leads to the caption starting from the left to right. Directing the attention of the viewers to the caption and copy.

•         Information

 •          Copy was restricted to the right side of the poster which doesn’t confuse the viewer, unlike in poster with words randomly placed.

•         Typography

•          Thick and rich typeface for heading adds a attract the attention of the passer-bys.

Lesson learnt

From this assignment, I learnt more about the placement of items in a poster to keep the balance and harmony of the overall poster.
